Four Million Sudanese Seek Return Home

Sudan has witnessed the largest displacement and refugee crisis, exceeding 14 million people, according to estimates by the United Nations and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), since the outbreak of the war in April 2023.
Since the Armed Forces regained control of the capital, Khartoum, approximately four million Sudanese have returned to their areas of origin within the country and to Sudan from neighboring countries—the majority of whom came from Egypt—amid improving security conditions and the resumption of services in several states.
In this context, the Minister of Human Resources and Social Welfare, Moatassim Ahmed Saleh, recently stated that around four million Sudanese wish to voluntarily return to the country. He emphasized that the government is working to create appropriate conditions to receive the returnees, provide job opportunities and basic services, as well as implement programs aimed at supporting poor families and contributing to recovery and reconstruction efforts.
The Minister added that the voluntary return project, in its current phase, aims to transport thousands of Sudanese who are unable to afford the costs of returning, in cooperation with government institutions and community organizations, at a time when efforts continue to restore stability and services to war-affected areas.
