Militia Drone-Attacks Family Members of Defectors

Port Sudan, Nile Post

Several members of Sudanese military leader have been killed in what appears to be an assassination targeting families of those who have defected from the ranks of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and jointed the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).

The family posted an eulogy in its Facebook account, saying the house of Kikel family was attacked with four missiles launched from drone that hovered over the village before unleashing the deadly attack, which “resulted in the martyrdom of several members of his family, including his brother, the field commander Azzam Kikel”

The family has openly accused the United Arab Emirates of providing the drones that were used to attack and kill the Kikel family, stressing that the dead were “laid to rest in the village of Al-Kahli Zaidan at dawn today, after their homes were targeted by the UAE aggression.”

The family was referring to consistent western media and diplomatic reports that the UAE has been the main provider of drones, weapons and Colombian mercenaries for the RSF militias, since the outbreak of the war three years ago, April 2023.

This incident signal a new and serious development which is targeting civilians whose sole sin was that they are families and kinship of leaders who defected from militia ranks.

It also came only week after the 3rd commander in ranking from RSF defected and joined the army, Major General Al-Nour Ahmed Adam, widely known as “Al-Nour Al-Qubba.

Kikel himself defected from the RSF in October 2024, dealing a serious blow to the militias and hugely contributing in chasing its forces from central and regaining army strong grip on the breadbasket of the country, al Gezira region.
